1 à 7 Ce tableau de l'avenir messianique ouvre dignement le morceau chapitres 4 et 5. Cette Sion, que le prophète vient de nous montrer totalement anéantie, il nous la décrit ici élevée à une gloire unique, devenue le centre du royaume de Dieu, vers lequel affluent tous les peuples. Cette brusque transition reflète fidèlement le caractère particulier de l'espérance des prophètes : ils ne proclament jamais avec plus d'assurance l'avenir réservé à Israël qu'en face de la ruine imminente et nécessaire qu'il doit subir. Le jugement ne saurait être le dernier mot de l'Eternel envers son peuple. Le terme est la glorification finale d'Israël. Mais ce qui distingue les vrais prophètes des faux, qui ne cherchent qu'à flatter le peuple et les grands, c'est qu'ils ne cessent de rappeler le jugement purificateur de l'exil, qui est le chemin par lequel Israël arrivera enfin à son but glorieux.

1 à 4 La gloire de la maison de l'Eternel aux derniers temps. Cette description se retrouve, avec quelques différences (la plus importante se trouve au verset 4, qui appartient en propre à Michée), dans le livre d'Esaïe (Esaïe 2.2-4). Comme nous l'avons dit dans l'explication d'Esaïe, il ne nous paraît pas possible que l'un des deux prophètes ait emprunté ce tableau à l'autre, et nous admettons que tous deux l'ont tiré d'un oracle plus ancien, que nous serions tentés, avec plusieurs interprètes d'attribuer au prophète Joël. Comparez pour l'explication de ces versets celle du passage correspondant d'Esaïe.

Le prophète franchit d'un bond l'intervalle qui sépare la ruine de Sion (3.12) de son rétablissement final.

La fin des jours désigne l'époque de l'accomplissement définitif des promesses de Dieu, c'est-à-dire les temps messianiques, que dans la perspective prophétique, chaque voyant contemple au terme de la période de l'histoire à laquelle il appartient.

La montagne de la maison de l'Eternel : Sion, comme l'Ancien Testament nomme habituellement la résidence de Jéhova. Il ne paraît pas, en effet, que Sion et la colline du temple, appelée quelquefois Morija, fussent deux localités différentes, comme l'a voulu la tradition jusqu'à nos jours. D'après elle, Sion aurait été la colline occidentale de Jérusalem, Morija la colline orientale. Les études récentes tendent plutôt à identifier Sion avec la colline du temple.

Il est de toute évidence que l'élévation promise ici à cette montagne n'est pas de nature matérielle, mais morale et spirituelle. Comparez les mots du verset 2 : Car de Sion sortira la loi..., qui sont destinés à expliquer l'affluence des peuples en Sion. Le privilège d'Israël est de posséder la révélation de Jéhova et de sa volonté sainte ; c'est par là qu'il devient le foyer de lumière et d'attraction pour tous les peuples. Le concours des nations païennes en Sion ne signifie pas autre chose que l'élévation de la religion israélite au rang de religion universelle. L'élévation extérieure n'est que le symbole de cette domination spirituelle.

« Le temps des nations » n’est pas encore clos : elles ne se sont pas encore soumises au Prince de la Paix, et n'ont pas abandonné leurs armes : les guerres continuent inlassablement...

Les promesses inhérentes à cette période sont précieuses : elles seront toutes exaucées parce que Celui qui a promis est fidèle !

Plus tard, « aux derniers jours », « durant les jours du Messie, » l’église sera glorieuse et régnera ici-bas, tout en étant toujours soumise à Dieu. Elle demeurera sur un Rocher : Christ !.

Les Gentils (les païens) continuent encore aujourd’hui à adorer leurs dieux et leurs idoles ; mais dans les temps futurs, annoncés par le prophète Michée, les peuples seront de tout cœur fidèle au Seigneur et se réjouiront d’accomplir Sa volonté.

Le terme « boiteux » utilisé à la fin de ce texte, décrit ceux qui ne « marchent » pas selon la Parole divine.

Le rassemblement des captifs de Babylone était la promesse d’une véritable restauration, d’une guérison, d’une purification ; c’est également une image de la période de prospérité pour l'église ; le règne de Christ continuera jusqu'à l’instauration du Royaume Éternel.

Incitons-nous mutuellement à mettre en pratique les ordonnances divines afin de mieux connaître les Voies du Seigneur ; Sa Parole est inscrite en notre cœur, par Son Esprit, afin que nous puissions témoigner, par notre conduite, de la Droiture de notre Sauveur !

      5 He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." He said, "Write, for these words of God are faithful and true."
