Et aux fils de Lévi... Le revenu des Lévites est de la même nature que celui des sacrificateurs ; il ne repose sur aucun bien-fonds ; il dépend entièrement de l'obéissance du peuple à l'ordre de Dieu. Il consiste dans la dîme que chaque Israélite doit leur payer sur les produits de sa terre. C'est en vertu de cette assimilation du traitement des Lévites à celui des sacrificateurs que dans le Deutéronome la parole du verset 20 est envisagée comme adressée aux premiers aussi bien qu'aux seconds (Deutéronome 10.9 ; 18.2).
