Israël est exhorté à retourner vers l'Éternel qu'il a délaissé, à cause des péchés commis et de l'adoration vouée aux idoles ; ce retour assidu doit être fait avec foi, sous l'égide de Sa grande miséricorde et de Sa grâce, suivant la promesse faite par le Rédempteur. Fuyez l'iniquité ; prenez-là, telle un fardeau que l'on est prêt à rejeter, une pierre d'achoppement qui nous a souvent fait chuter. Rejetez-la totalement par une complète et réelle repentance, étant convaincus que nous ne pouvons l'ôter nous-mêmes.

Seigneur, dans ta grâce, reçois notre prière. Le peuple d'Israël mentionnait les bontés reçues, il se référait à son Dieu. Il n'est pas bon de rechercher systématiquement les bontés que le monde peut offrir, il vaut mieux penser à celles que Dieu nous offre.

Le peuple se devait de bien considérer ses péchés, ses désirs et le remède qu'il pouvait y apporter ; il ne voulait plus offrir de sacrifices, mais se contentait des désirs de son propre cœur, en tentant même de les soumettre au Seigneur. Toutes ces choses sont une démonstration évidente du chemin à parcourir par un pécheur lors de sa conversion à Dieu, au travers de Jésus-Christ.

Au moment où nous sommes prêts à nous adresser à Dieu, par la prière de la foi, nous devrions d'abord, chercher à savoir ce qu'Il nous enseigne et ce qu'il convient de demander. Nous devons rechercher avec zèle, au moyen de Son aide, à nous éloigner de toute iniquité.
