L'homme sensé puise dans son bon sens les lumières qui le dirigeront dans le chemin de la vie et lui feront éviter les voies détournées qui mènent à la mort. Les sots, au contraire, s'ils s'en remettent à leur sottise, trouveront leur châtiment dans les conséquences qu'elle aura pour eux. Pour la forme de la fin du verset, comparez 14.24.
