Ce ne sont que corps morts, littéralement : C'est rempli de corps morts (comparez Apocalypse 19.17,18,21). La victoire de l'élu de Dieu est complète.

Il met en pièces le chef... Cette traduction est conforme à l'hébreu, qui emploie ici le mot rosch, tête, au singulier. Plusieurs cependant, prenant ce singulier comme un collectif, traduisent : Il brise des têtes sur une vaste étendue de pays. Ce serait une répétition oiseuse de l'idée exprimée verset 5. Notre traduction achève au contraire le tableau de la victoire, en mentionnant la destruction du principal ennemi à vaincre. Comparez Habakuk 3.13-14 ; Apocalypse 19.13-21).

D'un grand pays, hébreu : al érets rabba. Plusieurs voient dans le dernier mot rabba (grand, vaste) une allusion à Rabba ou Rabbath-Ammon, la capitale des Ammonites, que David avait prise et qui représenterait, à ses yeux, le siège le plus redoutable de la puissance ennemie de Dieu. Une détermination aussi précise ne nous semble pas s'accorder avec le ton général du psaume. Il s'agit ici de la victoire finale et universelle.
