Si tu gardes les iniquités. Le verbe hébreu signifie garder et aussi regarder, prendre garde à, sens qu'ont adopté plusieurs versions. Le sens premier du verbe, que nous avons conservé, semble confirmé par le contraste que forme avec lui la question qui suit immédiatement : Qui subsistera ? Il ne saurait subsister, celui dont Dieu garde devant lui les péchés (Job 14.17).
