Je remets mon esprit... Dieu n'est vraiment notre rempart (verset 5) que si nous lui remettons ce qu'il y a de plus intime en nous, cet esprit, qui d'ailleurs est son propre souffle (Genèse 2.7). David remet à Dieu son esprit, pour échapper à la mort. Jésus le lui remet pour être gardé dans la mort même (Luc 23.46).

Tu m'as racheté. Fondé sur les délivrances passées, David envisage la délivrance à venir comme déjà accomplie, car Dieu, en qui tout est vérité et fidélité, ne saurait le tromper.

Jean Huss, marchant au bûcher, répéta plusieurs fois les paroles de ce verset.
