Donné ou pas donné par Dieu, qui seul ouvre, par son Esprit, l'intelligence et le cœur, et qui est souverain dans la dispensation de ses dons.

C'est à la volonté de Dieu que Jésus en appelle ; c'est dans le décret insondable de la sagesse divine qu'il montre la raison dernière pour laquelle les mystères du royaume des cieux sont révélés aux uns, cachés aux autres. Mais les paroles d'Esaïe qui suivent (verset 15) prouvent que, soit dans la possession, soit dans la privation de la lumière divine, l'action et la responsabilité de l'homme ont leur part.

Ce qu'il s'agit de connaître, d'une manière vivante, expérimentale, ce sont les mystères du royaume des cieux, c'est-à-dire les vérités divines de ce royaume, qui restent mystères tant qu'elles ne sont pas révélées à l'homme par la Parole et l'Esprit de Dieu.

D'après le contexte cette expression désigne peut-être d'une manière plus spéciale les desseins de Dieu pour le salut des hommes, le plan divin suivant lequel le royaume doit s'établir, les conditions de son développement, que Jésus indique précisément dans les paraboles de ce chapitre. (Comparer Romains 16.25 ; 1Corinthiens 4.1 ; Ephésiens 3.3 et suivants, notes.)

Or c'est là ce qui a été donné aux disciples déjà alors dans une certaine mesure, et qui leur sera donné beaucoup plus encore par l'Esprit de la Pentecôte, en sorte que Jésus peut leur parler sans paraboles.

Mais pour d'autres, il doit employer cette forme d'enseignement, et il en dit la raison au verset 13 et suivants
