Jean présente à ses bien-aimés, avec une tendre affection, le cas opposé à celui qu'il vient d'indiquer. (verset 20) Il suppose que leur cœur, examine devant Dieu ne les accuse pas de manquer de charité il leur déclare qu'ils ont alors une grande assurance (grec) envers Dieu, et il ajoute cette consolante pensée que l'assurance (grec la liberté de tout dire) avec laquelle ils s'adressent à Dieu dans la prière, comme des enfants à leur Père, n'est pas une vaine illusion et ne reste pas stérile mais leur obtient de son amour toutes les grâces nouvelles qu'ils lui demandent ; car ils sont avec lui dans un rapport filial de parfaite obéissance, qui les rend agréables à ses yeux. (Comparer Jean 5.19,20,30 ; 11.42)

- Dans quel sens profond et vivant Jean entend ce mot garder ses commandements, c'est ce qu'il nous apprend à versets 23,24, et ainsi il revient au vrai fondement de notre assurance devant Dieu, d'où il était parti. (Comparer fin de la note précédente.)

Lorsque les croyants, réconciliés avec Dieu, accordent leur confiance en Jésus-Christ, par l'Esprit d'adoption et par la foi dans le grand Souverain Sacrificateur, ils peuvent demander, en toute certitude et pour leur bien, ce qu'ils désirent à leur Père.

La Volonté divine a été proclamée aux hommes, depuis les cieux, et ce, particulièrement pour les frères en Christ ; cette Volonté doit demeurer en leur cœur. Celui qui suit Christ de cette façon, demeure en Lui : Il est son secours, son refuge, et son repos, et le Père demeure également en lui ! Cette union entre Christ et l’âme des croyants leur a été accordée par l'Esprit-Saint.

Un homme peut croire que Dieu agit selon la Grâce, avant qu'il ne Le connaisse ; cependant lorsque la foi repose véritablement sur les promesses divines, elle se met à l'œuvre en son cœur. Cet Esprit de Dieu opère un réel changement ; chez un véritable chrétien, l’Esprit transforme le pouvoir de Satan, en puissance de Dieu.

Considère, croyant, comment Il change ton cœur. N'aspires-tu pas à la paix avec Dieu ? Ne veux-tu pas renoncer au monde entier, pour lui ? Aucun profit, aucun plaisir, ou nul attrait ne t'empêchera de suivre Christ. Le salut en Jésus est construit sur le témoignage de Dieu, par Son Esprit !
