2 Timothée 4.8

Ces mots : couronne de justice, juste Juge, ne signifient point que Paul attendît cette gloire comme une justice qui lui fût due ; mais il était assuré que le même Dieu qui lui avait fait les promesses de sa grâce est fidèle et juste pour les accomplir. (1Jean 1.9, note ; comparez Hébreux 6.10)

Cette justice est en son Dieu, non en luimême ; de là sa parfaite assurance. Peut-être aussi Paul oppose-t-il cette justice divine à la cruelle injustice des hommes qui allaient le mettre à mort.

- L'image d'une couronne, par laquelle il exprime la gloire du ciel pour continuer l'image du 2Timothée 4.7, le prix du combat, de la course, revient souvent dans les écrits apostoliques. (1Corinthiens 9.25 ; Jacques 1.12 ; 1Pierre 5.4 ; Apocalypse 2.10)
