Ce que voit Pierre dans sa vision (il faut remarquer ce verbe au présent), c'est d'abord le ciel ouvert, (comparez Actes 7.56 ; Matthieu 3.16,Jean 1.51, 2e note) c'est ensuite un vase, un récipient qui descend, semblable à une grande nappe, ou toile. Elle était tenue par les quatre coins. Le grec porte simplement, dans Sin., B, A : par les quatre coins, il (le vase) s'abaissait sur la terre.

Dans le texte reçu (C), on lit : par les quatre coins il était lié et s'abaissait sur la terre.

Qu'on admette ou non cette adjonction, il ne faut pas penser, avec quelques interprètes, que les extrémités de la nappe étaient nouées les unes aux autres, car alors Pierre n'aurait pu voir ce qu'elle contenait.

L'image décrite n'implique pas que ces quatre coins pendaient vers la terre, mais plutôt qu'ils étaient tenus par des mains invisibles, par des anges peut-être. (Comparer Actes 11.5-7)
