Certains exégètes ont prétendu que la mort d'Ananias a été accidentelle : elle aurait été causée par le violent ébranlement qu'il éprouva dans sa conscience et dans tout son être.

Mais la certitude avec laquelle Pierre annonce à Saphira qu'elle va partager le sort de son mari (verset 9) nous oblige à voir dans la fin subite des deux époux un châtiment direct de Dieu. (verset 11, note.)
