Sulammith éclate en un chant de triomphe et célèbre l'indissolubilité du lien qui l'attache à son bien-aimé, le Berger céleste. Elle proclame la puissance du sentiment qui lui a donné la victoire sur les séductions dont l'a entourée Salomon.

Un sceau sur ton cœur. On portait le cachet suspendu au cou par un cordon (Genèse 38.18).

Sur ton bras. On connaît bien l'usage de porter le cachet à l'un des doigts de la main droite (Jérémie 22.24 ; Genèse 41.42) ; mais nulle part il n'est parlé du cachet fixé au bras ; le bras désigne sans doute ici le poignet.

Fort comme la mort, à laquelle rien ne résiste.

La jalousie : elle accompagne inévitablement un amour puissant.

Inflexible. On ne reprend au sépulcre rien de ce qu'il s'est une fois approprié.

Une flamme de Jah. Jah est une forme abrégée du nom de Jéhova. C'est le seul passage du livre où Dieu soit nommé. Le vrai amour est invincible, parce qu'il vient d'En haut.
