Et un rejeton de ses racines : un rejeton sortant de la même racine qu'elle, Ptolémée III Evergète, frère de Bérénice et successeur de Ptolémée Philadelphe ; il se leva, à la place de son père, pour venger la mort de sa sœur. Il marcha contre Séleucus Callinicus, fils d'Antiochus Théos, fit mourir Laodicée et s'empara d'une grande partie de la Syrie et de la Cilicie.
