Ecclésiaste 12.1

Mais souviens-toi de ton créateur pendant les jours de ta jeunesse, avant que les jours du malheur viennent et que les années soient proches, dont tu diras : Je n’y trouve aucun agrément ;
Jeune homme, réjouis-toi en ton jeune âge, et que ton coeur te rende gai aux jours de ta jeunesse, et marche comme ton coeur te mène, et selon le regard de tes yeux ; mais sache que pour toutes ces choses Dieu t'amènera en jugement.

Huitième morceau, 1 à 10 : La joie recommandée au jeune homme.

S'il faut se réjouir même au soir de la vie (11.8), combien plus au matin !

Que ton cœur te rende content. C'est du cœur que procèdent les sources de la vie (Proverbes 4.23) ; aussi, à ce point de vue, peut-il être distingué du reste de la personne. Comparez 1.17 ; 3.18 ; 7.25.

Marche comme ton cœur te mène. Libéralisme et largeur !

Mais sache... Sérieuse restriction. Aime Dieu et fais tout ce que tu voudras, a dit saint Augustin, mais avant tout : Aime Dieu !

Dieu te fera venir en jugement. L'on ne savait dans l'ancienne alliance jusqu'à quel point le triage commence dans le Schéol dès après la mort (9.5-6), mais Jésus a détruit le voile (Luc 16.19 et suivants). Toutefois le jugement définitif n'aura lieu qu'après des jours nombreux (11.8).

Nous devons nous souvenir de nos péchés contre notre Créateur, nous en repentir, et chercher Son pardon. Nous devons également garder en mémoire qu’il faut accomplir notre devoir, et nous y attacher, en portant notre regard vers notre Créateur, pour qu’Il nous octroie Sa Grâce et Sa force. Cela devrait être fait dès notre plus jeune âge, quand nous sommes au fait de nos forces physiques, et que l'esprit est des plus actifs.

Quand un homme retrace sa vie avec tristesse, sans avoir pu abandonner le péché, ni les vanités de ce monde, et qu'il en arrive à dire: « je n'ai pris aucun plaisir ici-bas », sa sincérité ne peut être remise en cause, malheureusement.

Nous avons ensuite dans ce texte un portrait imagé de la vieillesse, avec les difficultés et les différents problèmes qu’elle engendre. Les versets Ecclésiaste 12:2-6, continuent cette description, en donnant différentes réflexions auxquelles on songe à l'heure de la mort. Si le péché n'était pas entré dans le monde, l’homme n’aurait pas connu une telle souffrance.

Il est donc certain que celui qui arrive au terme de sa vie devrait songer au mal engendré par le péché...
