1 à 11 Le salut promis.

On peut envisager les versets 1 et 2 comme le texte des discours qui vont suivre, chapitres 40 à 66 : le temps de la délivrance est venu ; Dieu donne ordre à ses prophètes d'annoncer cette bonne nouvelle à son peuple captif. La délivrance, résumée dans ces deux versets, ne comprend pas seulement le retour de l'exil ; les tribulations d'Israël n'ont pas cessé avec ce retour, et l'allégresse qui a suivi n'a pas été l'allégresse éternelle (35.10). Le retour de Babylone n'est aux yeux du prophète que le premier acte de la restauration complète d'Israël. Comme un homme qui contemple les objets de loin, il voit tout en raccourci. Le temps qui sépare le rétablissement extérieur de la gloire finale n'existe pas pour lui, ni en général pour les prophètes. Il voit donc la délivrance complète, finale, succéder immédiatement au retour de Babylone, qui en est la condition et l'acheminement. La grâce qu'il promet n'est rien moins que l'arrivée glorieuse de Jéhova au milieu de son peuple ; mais cette grâce embrasse et suppose nécessairement le retour de l'exil.

Dieu dit mon peuple, et non plus, comme précédemment, ce peuple (6.9 ; 28.11) ; car le temps du rejet a cessé ; Dieu renoue par sa grâce le lien qu'avait rompu l'infidélité du peuple (54.6-8).

Toute la vie humaine est un combat, en particulier pour les chrétiens ; mais ce combat ne sera pas éternel. Les problèmes se dissipent par la présence de l'amour, quand le péché est pardonné. Dans l'expiation réalisée par la mort de Christ, la Miséricorde divine s'est exercée à la Gloire de l'Éternel, en toute Justice. En Christ, par ses souffrances, ceux qui confessent de tout cœur leurs péchés, reçoivent en abondance la Grâce divine, pour tous les péchés commis ; car Sa mort, conforme à la Volonté du Père, représente une valeur infinie.

Dans ce texte, le prophète a fait allusion, au retour des Juifs de Babylone. Mais cet événement reste bien modeste, comparé à celui mentionné par le Saint-Esprit, dans le Nouveau Testament, quand Jean-Baptiste a annoncé la venue de Christ !

Quand les mages d'Orient marchèrent dans le désert, pour rendre hommage à Jésus, leur chemin était aplani, et les obstacles écartés. Que le seigneur puisse ainsi « préparer notre cœur », par l'enseignement de Sa Parole et la conviction de Son Esprit, afin que toutes les pensées orgueilleuses et hautaines soient rejetées et remplacées par de sains désirs, que nos desseins sinueux et douteux deviennent directs et francs, que chaque entrave soit enlevée, en sorte que nous puissions être déjà prêts, ici-bas, à séjourner dans Son royaume merveilleux !

Tout ce qui appartient à l'homme déchu, ou tout ce qu'il fait, est semblable à de l'herbe ou à une fleur vulnérable ! Que restera-t-il des titres et des possessions, de tous les biens périssables qu'un pécheur mortel aura acquis, au jour de sa condamnation ? La Parole de Dieu peut accomplir en nous ce que la chair est incapable de faire !

La « bonne nouvelle » de la venue de Christ devait être répandue jusqu'aux confins de la terre. Satan est puissamment armé, mais notre Seigneur Jésus est Le plus fort. Il accomplira tous Ses desseins ! Christ est le bon Berger ; Il manifeste un tendre soin à l'encontre des jeunes convertis, des croyants « chétifs », et de ceux qui sont dans la tristesse. Toute plénitude réside en Sa Parole, et par la Providence, Il soulage toute peine, afin que les Siens soient affermis.

Puissions-nous, en tant que « brebis », reconnaître la voix de notre Berger, et Le suivre !

      18 Violence shall no more be heard in your land, desolation nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.
      19 The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light to you: but Yahweh will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.

      21 Your people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
      22 The little one shall become a thousand, and the small one a strong nation; I, Yahweh, will hasten it in its time."

      Esaïe 61

      1 The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is on me; because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;
