Voilà, vous tous qui allumez le feu, et qui vous ceignez d'étincelles, marchez à la lueur de votre feu, et dans les étincelles que vous avez embrasées ; ceci vous a été fait de ma main, vous serez gisants dans les tourments.

World English Bible Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who adorn yourselves with torches around yourselves; walk in the flame of your fire, and among the brands that you have kindled. You shall have this of my hand; you shall lie down in sorrow.

Le discours du prophète se confond ici avec celui de Dieu lui-même.

Le feu qu'allument les rebelles est celui de la méchanceté, les flèches qu'ils lancent, celles de la haine et de la persécution contre l'Eternel et contre son serviteur (comparez 9.17 ; Jacques 3.6) ; c'est ce feu même qui les consumera, car le jugement de l'Eternel le retournera contre eux (comparez 1.31 ; Malachie 4.4). Jérusalem et le temple ont péri dans ce feu ; le sang du Juste est retombé sur Israël.

Vous serez couchés : pour ne plus vous relever (comme les Egyptiens, 43.17 ; comparez 66.24 ; Jérémie 51.57).
