Tête et queue, palme et jonc, ce qu'il y a de plus noble et de plus méprisable dans le corps des animaux et dans le monde des plantes, est une expression proverbiale pour dire : tous sans exception. Ces images sont appliquées au verset 15.

La tête, la pa1me (la couronne élevée du palmier), c'est ce qu'il y a de plus distingué, dans la nation, ceux qui guident, les chefs indignes, princes, magistrats, faux prophètes, qui conduisent Israël à la ruine (3.2-3,12) ; la queue, le jonc, c'est le menu peuple, ceux qui sont guidés.
