Il érigea un autel. Moïse élève cet autel en conformité de l'ordre donné 20.24. L'autel représente la table sacrée dressée à l'Eternel et sur laquelle il recevra les offrandes qui lui seront présentées par Israël.

Les douze pierres, représentant les douze tribus, étaient rangées autour de l'autel. Elles devaient être pour le peuple le mémorial de cette cérémonie. Comparez Josué 4.2-3,9 ; 1Rois 18.31
