Et... : Et après cela. Après avoir traité Israël comme Israël l'a traité, (oubli de l'alliance), Dieu agira à sa manière : Je me souviendrai, moi. Il prendra l'initiative d'une relation toute nouvelle avec Jérusalem.

Dans un sens, cette alliance sera le renouvellement de la première, en ce qu'elle continuera l'œuvre commencée par celle-ci ; dans un autre sens, ce sera une alliance nouvelle ; car elle n'aura plus ce caractère national et par conséquent temporaire ; elle sera universelle (verset 53) et éternelle ; ce qui suppose des bases toutes différentes de celles de l'ancienne.
