Ezéchiel 25.13

À cause de cela, je le dis, moi, le Seigneur DIEU : Je ferai sentir ma puissance contre Édom, je ferai mourir les humains et les animaux de ce pays, je le détruirai depuis la ville de Téman jusqu’à celle de Dédan. Ses habitants seront tués à la guerre.

Théman, Dédan : deux districts situés l'un dans la partie méridionale de l'Idumée, l'autre probablement à l'est du premier (Jérémie 49.7-8, notes).

Par la main de mon peuple. C'est ici un trait particulier de la menace prophétique : la haine personnelle des Edomites contre Israël fera que celui-ci sera choisi dans ce cas pour être lui-même l'exécuteur du jugement divin.

Nous venons de voir l'accomplissement de cette menace par Jean Hyrcan. Mais la prophétie atteint jusqu'aux derniers temps. On verra alors a puissance du paganisme, représentée par Edom, crouler devant le règne du Christ, sorti de Juda.
