Cette question pourrait s'adresser à Assur ; le prophète proclamerait ici son abaissement, pour dire ensuite à Pharaon : Tel va être ton sort. Mais d'après l'analogie du verset 2, par cette question le prophète revient plutôt à Pharaon. Il se transporte au moment où le jugement de l'Egypte, décrit dans les chapitres précédents, est déjà consommé, comme celui d'Assur, et répète la question du verset 2 dans un sens nouveau. Là, la réponse était : Tu ressemblais à Assur dans sa grandeur. Ici la réponse est : Et maintenant tu lui ressembles dans sa chute.

Au milieu d'incirconcis : peut-être allusion au fait que la circoncision était pratiquée en Egypte pour les prêtres et pour les rois.

Les mots : en gloire et en grandeur, sont ironiques. Pharaon est désormais semblable aux arbres d'Eden, aux grands monarques terrestres, non seulement quant à leur beauté, mais aussi quant à leur ruine. Il ne reste plus au prophète qu'à entonner la complainte de l'Egypte et de son roi. C'est le dernier morceau.
