Les boucles... Ceci ne doit pas être placé dans le domaine de la réalité extérieure.

L'Esprit : sous la forme d'un vent par lequel le prophète se sent emporté.

L'entrée du parvis intérieur : l'endroit où le portique, par lequel communiquaient les deux parvis (Plan, lettre F), s'ouvrait sur le parvis intérieur. Le prophète se trouvait à l'endroit indiqué dans le plan par le numéro 4. A travers les portes ouvertes du portique, le prophète pouvait voir l'idole dressée au nord dans le parvis extérieur (lettre a).

Statue de jalousie. Cette expression est empruntée au second commandement (Exode 20.5 : Je suis l'Eternel ton Dieu, le Dieu fort et jaloux) ; elle rappelle les nombreux passages des prophètes antérieurs où l'idolâtrie était représentée comme un adultère ; comparez aussi Ezéchiel 16.17. L'expression de jalousie n'indique encore que vaguement le caractère moral attaché à cette idole ; et les mots suivants : qui provoque..., font ressortir plus énergiquement le sentiment d'indignation qu'éprouve l'Eternel à cette vue.

Cette fausse divinité, dont le nom n'est pas indiqué, était peut-être une idole chaldéenne, une de ces hautes statues, telles que les aimaient les peuples orientaux.
