27-32,. Chaque exaucement enhardit Abraham à présenter une nouvelle requête. On se demande pourquoi il s'arrête à dix. Peut-être parce que moins de dix personnes ne peuvent plus être envisagés comme une fraction de la nation ; elles ne forment plus qu'une famille qui, si elle existe, pourra être sauvée seule, sans que la nation en bénéficie. Il faut remarquer dans cette intercession, à côté d'une sainte hardiesse, un sentiment d'humilité qui devient de plus en plus profond à chaque acte nouveau de la condescendance divine.

Ce récit présente un intérêt tout particulier en ce qu'il nous montre Abraham agissant comme protecteur de ce pays qui lui avait été promis. Ce qu'il avait fait en remportant la victoire sur les rois ennemis lors de l'invasion de Kédorlaomer, il essaie de le faire de nouveau en intercédant auprès de Dieu.
