Jésus continue à rendre témoignage aux effets de son œuvre dans les disciples.

1° Maintenant déjà, ils ont connu (verbe au parfait, fait accompli et permanent) que tous les dons déployés par le Sauveur dans son enseignement (Jean 12.49) et dans ses œuvres (Jean 5.36) venaient de Dieu.

2° Ils sont arrivés à cette connaissance parce que Jésus ne leur a donné que les paroles qu'il recevait de Dieu et qu'eux, de leur côté, ils les ont reçues dans leur cœur par la foi. (Ici comme toujours, action de Dieu et action de l'homme dans l'œuvre du salut.)

3° De cette connaissance et de cette foi relatives à la parole divine sont nées dans le cœur des disciples la connaissance et la foi relatives à la personne de leur Maître et à son origine divine : ils ont connu et cru qu'il est sorti d'auprès de Dieu et que c'est Dieu qui l'a envoyé. (Comparer Jean 6.69)

Les voilà donc bien préparés à recevoir les grâces nouvelles que Jésus va demander pour eux.
