Les terrasses de siège construites par les Chaldéens se sont maintenant avancées assez près de la ville pour dominer les rues et les places. De là l'ennemi épie ceux qui se hasardent hors de leurs maisons pour leur lancer des flèches ou des pierres et pour surveiller toute tentative de fuite ou de sortie.

Notre fin approche... langage des assiégés dans cette extrémité ; ils se résignent à la mort.
