World English Bible and Yahweh said to Moses, "Tell Aaron your brother, not to come at all times into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die: for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.

En tout temps : quand cela lui plaît, en dehors des temps fixés par Dieu lui-même.

Qu'il ne meure. Voir Exode 28.35.

On ne paraît pas en Orient devant le souverain sans être appelé, sous peine de mort.

La nuée : non pas celle dont parle le verset 13, produite par l'encens que le sacrificateur devait brûler dans le Lieu très saint avant d'y entrer ; mais celle dont a parlé Exode 25.22 et qui planait au-dessus du Lieu très saint. L'Eternel est un feu consumant, même pour le grand sacrificateur en dehors des fonctions de sa charge. Car alors il paraît devant Dieu comme homme chargé de péchés ; et malheur à lui !
