Pour vous, mes disciples, qui devez vous distinguer de la multitude et ne pas partager son enthousiasme charnel, (grec) mettez dans vos oreilles ces paroles ; des paroles dans lesquelles Jésus annonçait ses prochaines souffrances, au moment même où "tous étaient dans l'admiration de ce qu'il faisait." (verset 43)

Luc met ainsi cette nouvelle prédiction des souffrances de Jésus dans un rapport immédiat avec ce qui précède ; Matthieu (Matthieu 17.22,23) et Marc (Marc 9.30-32, voir les notes) la font coïncider avec le retour de Jésus en Galilée, qui eut lieu peu de temps après la transfiguration.

Celui qui venait de révéler avec autant de puissance que d'amour la grandeur de Dieu, (verset 43) livré entre les mains des hommes ! Quel contraste ! Quelle preuve que son sacrifice sera parfaitement volontaire !
