Comparer verset 43. JĂ©sus, par une question directe, force ses adversaires Ă  prononcer sur eux-mĂȘmes la terrible sentence qu'ont mĂ©ritĂ©e les vignerons.

Le moment n'est pas Ă©loignĂ© oĂč le peuple entier en fera autant pour son propre compte ; (Matthieu 27.25) et l'on sait avec quelle effroyable rigueur cette sentence fut exĂ©cutĂ©e quarante ans plus tard.

- Dans Marc et Luc, c'est JĂ©sus lui-mĂȘme qui fait la question et la rĂ©ponse. Le rĂ©cit de Matthieu est plus dramatique : la conscience des interlocuteurs de JĂ©sus les force Ă  prononcer la condamnation des vignerons, c'est-Ă -dire leur propre condamnation.

C'est encore Matthieu seul qui a conservé ce rapprochement de termes, qui fait ressortir combien la condamnation est à la fois sévÚre et méritée : Il fera périr misérablement ces misérables. Mais ces mots, dans la bouche des adversaires, prouvent qu'ils ne s'étaient pas encore reconnus dans la personne des vignerons.

      23 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days! For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people.
      24 They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
