Les cinq talents confiés n'étaient pas si peu de chose ; mais le maître les désigne ainsi en comparaison de ce qu'il confiera encore de ses immenses richesses à ce serviteur qui s'est montré bon et fidèle.

Que signifie dans la parabole, ce mot : la joie de ton seigneur ? Les uns ont pensé à la satisfaction que le maître éprouvait au sujet de ce bon serviteur, d'autres à quelque banquet ou quelque fête qu'il voulait instituer pour célébrer son retour.

Le plus naturel est d'admettre qu'ici Jésus passe tout à coup de l'image à la réalité, et que cette joie, c'est la félicité et la gloire dont il jouit, et dans laquelle il introduit son fidèle serviteur. (Comparer Romains 8.17)
