Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2
When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.
3
The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
4
But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"
5
Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6
and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you.' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"
7
Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'"
8
Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.
9
He said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me."
10
Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.'"
11
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
Jésus commence son œuvre en Galilée
12
Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.
13
Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
15
"The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16
the people who sat in darkness saw a great light, to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to them light has dawned."
17
From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
19
He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men."
20
They immediately left their nets and followed him.
21
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them.
22
They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
Jésus enseigne et guérit

Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24
The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.
25
Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

Τότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀνήχθη εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὑπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος, πειρασθῆναι ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου.

καὶ νηστεύσας ἡμέρας τεσσεράκοντα καὶ νύκτας τεσσεράκοντα ὕστερον ἐπείνασεν.
3
καὶ προσελθὼν ὁ πειράζων εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰπὲ ἵνα οἱ λίθοι οὗτοι ἄρτοι γένωνται.
4
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐπ’ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλ’ ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος θεοῦ.

Τότε παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ,

καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν κάτω· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι Τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσίν σε, μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου.

ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πάλιν γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου.

Πάλιν παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν λίαν, καὶ δείκνυσιν αὐτῷ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ταῦτά σοι πάντα δώσω, ἐὰν πεσὼν προσκυνήσῃς μοι.
10
τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὕπαγε, Σατανᾶ· γέγραπται γάρ· Κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις καὶ αὐτῷ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις.
11
τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελοι προσῆλθον καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ.

Ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι Ἰωάννης παρεδόθη ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.
13
καὶ καταλιπὼν τὴν Ναζαρὰ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ τὴν παραθαλασσίαν ἐν ὁρίοις Ζαβουλὼν καὶ Νεφθαλίμ·
14
ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·
15
Γῆ Ζαβουλὼν καὶ γῆ Νεφθαλίμ, ὁδὸν θαλάσσης, πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, Γαλιλαία τῶν ἐθνῶν,
16
ὁ λαὸς ὁ καθήμενος ἐν σκοτίᾳ φῶς εἶδεν μέγα, καὶ τοῖς καθημένοις ἐν χώρᾳ καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου φῶς ἀνέτειλεν αὐτοῖς.
17
Ἀπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ὁ Ἰησοῦς κηρύσσειν καὶ λέγειν· Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶδεν δύο ἀδελφούς, Σίμωνα τὸν λεγόμενον Πέτρον καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς·

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.
20
οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὰ δίκτυα ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.
21
Καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄλλους δύο ἀδελφούς, Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ Ζεβεδαίου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς.

οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὸ πλοῖον καὶ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.

Καὶ περιῆγεν ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ, διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ.

καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς ὅλην τὴν Συρίαν· καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ βασάνοις συνεχομένους, δαιμονιζομένους καὶ σεληνιαζομένους καὶ παραλυτικούς, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.
25
καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ Δεκαπόλεως καὶ Ἱεροσολύμων καὶ Ἰουδαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.

Alors l’Esprit de Dieu conduit Jésus dans le désert, pour que l’esprit du mal le tente.
2
Pendant 40 jours et 40 nuits, Jésus ne mange rien. Ensuite il a faim.
3
L’esprit du mal s’approche de Jésus pour le tenter et il lui dit : « Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, dis à ces pierres : “Changez-vous en pains !” »
4
Jésus lui répond : « Dans les Livres Saints on lit : “Le pain ne suffit pas à faire vivre l’homme. Celui-ci a besoin aussi de toutes les paroles qui sortent de la bouche de Dieu.” »
5
Alors l’esprit du mal emmène Jésus à Jérusalem, la ville sainte. Il le place au sommet du temple,
6
et il lui dit : « Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas ! En effet, dans les Livres Saints on lit : “Dieu commandera à ses anges de te porter dans leurs bras pour que tes pieds ne heurtent pas les pierres.” »
7
Jésus lui répond : « Dans les Livres Saints on lit aussi : “Tu ne dois pas provoquer le Seigneur ton Dieu.” »

L’esprit du mal emmène encore Jésus sur une très haute montagne. Il lui montre tous les royaumes du monde, avec leur richesse,
9
et il lui dit : « Mets-toi à genoux devant moi pour m’adorer, et je vais te donner tout cela. »
10
Jésus lui dit : « Va-t’en, Satan ! En effet, dans les Livres Saints on lit : “C’est le Seigneur ton Dieu que tu dois adorer, et c’est lui seul que tu dois servir.” »
11
Alors l’esprit du mal laisse Jésus. Des anges s’approchent de Jésus, et ils lui donnent à manger.
Jésus commence son œuvre en Galilée

Jean a été mis en prison. Quand Jésus apprend cela, il part pour la Galilée.
13
Il ne reste pas à Nazareth et il va habiter à Capernaüm, au bord du lac, dans la région de Zabulon et de Neftali.
14
Ainsi se réalise cette parole du prophète Ésaïe :

« Pays de Zabulon et de Neftali, près de la mer, de l’autre côté du Jourdain, Galilée, pays de ceux qui ne sont pas juifs !
16
Le peuple qui habite dans la nuit a vu une grande lumière. Pour ceux qui vivent dans le sombre pays de la mort, une lumière a brillé. »
17
À partir de ce moment, Jésus se met à annoncer : « Changez votre vie ! Oui, le Royaume des cieux est tout près de vous ! »
Jésus appelle quatre pêcheurs
18
Jésus marche au bord du lac de Galilée. Il voit deux frères : Simon, qu’on appelle Pierre, et André son frère. Ce sont des pêcheurs, et ils sont en train de jeter un filet dans le lac.
19
Jésus leur dit : « Venez avec moi, et je ferai de vous des pêcheurs d’hommes. »
20
Aussitôt, ils laissent leurs filets et ils suivent Jésus.
21
En allant un peu plus loin, Jésus voit deux autres frères : Jacques et Jean, les fils de Zébédée. Ils sont dans la barque avec leur père Zébédée. Ils réparent leurs filets. Jésus les appelle.
22
Aussitôt ils laissent leur barque et leur père et ils suivent Jésus.
Jésus enseigne et guérit
23
Jésus va dans toute la Galilée. Il enseigne dans les maisons de prière juives, il annonce la Bonne Nouvelle du Royaume, il guérit les gens de toutes leurs maladies et de toutes leurs douleurs.
24
On entend parler de Jésus dans toute la Syrie. On lui amène tous ceux qui souffrent : ceux qui ont des maladies et des douleurs de toutes sortes, ceux qui ont des esprits mauvais, ceux qui ont des crises nerveuses. On lui amène aussi les paralysés. Jésus les guérit.

Des foules nombreuses suivent Jésus. Elles viennent de Galilée, de la région des Dix Villes, de Jérusalem, de Judée et de la région à l’est du Jourdain.

Ici les mêmes mots signifient : "N'aie peur de rien ; en tout cas Dieu t'aidera." C'est la tentation opposée ; là, le manque de foi, qui est l'épreuve des commençants ; ici, en quelque sorte, l'excès de foi, ou l'abus de la foi, qui ne peut être que le danger des avancés...Précisément parce que cette suggestion fait appel à la foi, Satan l'appuie d'une promesse divine...Il avait remarqué que deux fois Jésus lui avait opposé comme un bouclier une parole scripturaire ; il essaie à son tour de se servir de la même arme. (Godet).
Beaucoup d'interprètes pensent que Satan incitait Jésus à accomplir un miracle d'apparat qui l'ai fait reconnaître comme Messie par la multitude enthousiasmée, mais notre récit n'indique pas ce but et ne nous montre pas la foule spectatrice du miracle.
