Les hommes font leur proie de leurs semblables : en méprisant les pauvres, ils font honte à leur Créateur. Une telle conduite est un véritable déshonneur, mais qui peut vraiment contester une telle chose, quand ce sont des soi-disant chrétiens qui en sont les auteurs ?

Si nous sommes prêts à éprouver de la compassion pour les opprimés, il nous faut alors déplorer les difficultés sous lesquelles beaucoup gémissent ici-bas ; il nous faut mettre notre âme à la place de la leur, en nous rappelant, dans nos prières et dans notre secours apporté, la souffrance qu'ils éprouvent.

Que ceux qui ne témoignent d'aucune compassion, s'attendent à un jugement divin sans pitié.
