World English Bible Yahweh said to me, "Go again, love a woman loved by another, and an adulteress, even as Yahweh loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods, and love cakes of raisins."

Va encore aimer une femme...Une femme ; ce n'est donc pas la femme du chapitre 1. Et c'est là l'argument décisif, nous semble-t-il, contre l'interprétation littérale de ces deux tableaux. Les partisans de cette interprétation pensent, il est vrai, qu'il est encore question de Gomer ; mais le prophète est obligé d'acheter cette femme (verset 2) ; ce ne peut donc pas être la même que précédemment. A certains égards, l'image est la même, mais elle est modifiée par l'adjonction d'un trait tout nouveau : un temps de châtiment durant lequel Israël se trouvera dans la position la plus étrange et que jusqu'alors il n'avait jamais connue, qui ne sera ni l'adoration du vrai Dieu, ni celle des idoles.

Aimée d'un amant : cet amant, c'est Baal ; adultère : envers son mari légitime ; ce mari, c'est Dieu.

Les gâteaux de raisin... Tandis que Dieu aime les fils d'Israël même dans leur état repoussant de dégradation, eux ne recherchent que les jouissances sensuelles, les fêtes voluptueuses qui accompagnent le culte idolâtre ; ces plaisirs sont comparés aux gâteaux de raisin, à cause du goût douceâtre de ceux-ci.

Le prophète franchit une nouvelle étape, celle de la grâce, par laquelle Dieu restaure à nouveau Israël.

L'aversion des hommes envers la véritable piété a pour cause leur envie de céder aux choses qu'ils désirent, au lieu de faire périr leur propre convoitise. Qu'il est merveilleux de voir la compassion de Dieu envers ceux qui Le haïssent, malgré leurs désirs charnels ! On voit ici la représentation de la Grâce divine, descendre sur la race humaine. C'est ici l'engagement de Dieu à offrir Sa grâce aux siens, afin qu'ils soient Son peuple et qu'Il soit leur Dieu. Ils doivent accepter la rançon de leurs péchés pour ne plus retourner ensuite à leur folie. C'est, en quelque sorte, un encouragement pour nous, à résister à la tentation, quand nous sommes dans l'affliction.
