Mais maintenant, (verset 26) ce mystère a été manifesté par la venue de Jésus-Christ d'abord, puis par la révélation intérieure que le Saint Esprit donnait aux apôtres ; (Ephésiens 3.5) et il a été (grec) publié pour toutes les nations, pour l'obéissance de la foi, (Romains 1.5. note) par le moyen d'écrits prophétiques.

La plupart entendent, par ces derniers mots, les écrits des prophètes de l'Ancienne Alliance, dont le sens profond se découvrait aux chrétiens. Mais le contraste entre aujourd'hui et autrefois est trop marqué pour que l'apôtre ait pensé à des écrits parus durant ces temps infinis où Dieu se taisait. Il s'agit d'écrits inspirés de la Nouvelle Alliance, dans lesquels les témoins du Christ exposent la révélation qu'ils ont reçue en leur Maître. Ces écrits sont, en tout cas, compris dans l'expression : écrits prophétiques. Paul comptait dans leur nombre, probablement, l'épître qu'il termine par ces mots. Il parle en termes semblables de son épître aux Ephésiens. (Ephésiens 3.3-5)

La publication du mystère a lieu selon l'ordre du Dieu éternel : l'apôtre l'appelle éternel en regard de ces temps infinis pendant lesquels le mystère avait été tenu secret, et parce que, de toute éternité, Dieu avait conçu le dessein de sauver les hommes.

"Il montre combien ce secret est haut quand il ajoute que, dès le commencement du monde, il a été caché par tant de siècles. Vrai est qu'il ne contient pas une sagesse qui soit enflée et brave, telle que les enfants de ce monde désirent, lesquels aussi l'ont pourtant en mépris : mais il nous déploie ces trésors inestimables de la sapience céleste, qui surmontent tout entendement ; lesquelles si les anges mêmes adorent en grande admiration, il n'y a certes celui d'entre les hommes qui les puisse considérer en assez grande révérence. Et ne faut point que cette sapience soit par nous moins estimée pour ce qu'elle est cachée sous une simplicité de paroles commune et contemptible ; car il a plu au Seigneur d'abattre ainsi l'orgueil de la chair." Calvin.
