David exhorte le peuple à craindre l'Éternel. (1 Chroniques 28:1-10)
Il donne ses instructions, relatives au temple. (1 Chroniques 28:11-21)

Durant la dernière maladie de David, beaucoup de principaux sacrificateurs et de Lévites étaient à Jérusalem. Se trouvant lui-même capable de construire un temple pour l'Éternel, David constata que cela n'était pas conforme à la volonté divine. Le roi indiqua à son entourage, le plan que l'Éternel avait prévu pour Salomon. Il exhorta ses principaux conseillers à suivre Dieu, tout en veillant à accomplir sérieusement leur devoir. Nous ne pouvons pas effectuer notre travail comme nous le devrions, si nous ne prenons pas la résolution préalable de rechercher la force de la Grâce divine.

La religion ou la piété possèdent deux particularités distinctes : la première est la connaissance de Dieu, la seconde traite de l'adoration que nous devons Lui porter. David annonce au verset 1 Chroniques 28:9 ; « Connais le Dieu de ton père, et sers-Le avec un cœur parfait et avec une âme qui y prenne plaisir ».

Dieu s'est révélé par Ses œuvres et Sa Parole. Seule cette révélation est capable de montrer l'ensemble du caractère divin : la Providence, la sainte Parole, la condamnation des pécheurs, l'évangile béni et le rôle de l'Esprit-Saint envers tous les véritables croyants.

L'homme charnel ne peut pas entrevoir cette connaissance divine. Mais nous pouvons percevoir dans la Bible toute la valeur de l'expiation du Sauveur, et de la sanctification opérée par le Saint-Esprit : nous sommes alors exhortés à marcher conformément aux commandements divins. Cette démarche permet au pécheur de s'agenouiller au pied de la croix, misérable, coupable, nécessiteux, ne méritant que la colère divine, mais s'attendant néanmoins à bénéficier de la pitié et de la grâce de Dieu, notre Père, et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ. Après avoir été ainsi pardonné, le pécheur justifié apprend à aimer à son tour.

      25 Over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah:
      26 Over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:
      27 and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: and over the increase of the vineyards for the winecellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:
      28 and over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowland was Baal Hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:
      29 and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:
      30 and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.
      31 All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.
      32 Also Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:
      33 Ahithophel was the king's counselor: and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend:
      34 and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the captain of the king's army was Joab.
