Quel que puisse être le motif de tels sacrifices des biens (Grec : "distribués en morceaux") ou même de la vie, ils ne servent de rien aux yeux de Dieu s'ils ne découlent de l'amour pour lui et pour les hommes.

Ce que Dieu veut, c'est le cœur, il refuse sans cela tout le reste. Quel jugement absolu sur toutes les œuvres de propre justice, sur toutes celles où l'homme se recherche luimême !
