10 à 17 Que chacun prenne garde comment il édifie sur le fondement.

En se comparant à un sage architecte, Paul n'entend point caractériser la manière dont il a travaillé, et moins encore s'adresser une louange ; car il attribue tout à la grâce qui lui a été donnée ; il ne s'agit ici que du fondement qu'il a posé. (verset 11)

Tout sage architecte commence par là avant de songer à bâtir, voilà tout ce qu'il veut dire. La suite explique l'image dont il se sert (verset 15, note) et la mesure de la récompense promise. (verset 8)

L'apôtre était un « sage architecte », (verset 1 Corinthiens 3:10) ; la Grâce de Dieu l’a fait ainsi.

Toute fierté spirituelle est répréhensible ; elle utilise les plus grandes faveurs divines pour nourrir notre vanité, nous faisant devenir ainsi l’idole de nous-même. Que chacun fasse attention ; il peut y avoir de mauvaises constructions sur un bon fondement : on ne doit construire sur une fondation que ce qu’elle peut supporter ; elle forme un tout avec le corps de bâtiment.

Prenons soin de ne pas joindre à notre foi, associée à notre témoignage pour Christ, une vie charnelle, corrompue par le péché. Christ est en effet un Roc inébranlable, éternel, toujours capable de supporter le poids que Dieu ou le pécheur peuvent placer sur Lui ; il n'y a de salut en aucun Autre, Actes 4:12*. Excluons toute doctrine de l’expiation qu’offre Jésus, si notre espérance ne repose pas sur Lui. Deux sortes de personnes s'appuient sur le Seigneur : - Celles qui soutiennent sans cesse la Vérité en Jésus, n’annonçant rien d'autre. - Celles également, qui bâtissent leur vie sur un bon fondement spirituel, mais qui ne peuvent résister, hélas, lors de l'épreuve.

Nous pouvons nous tromper nous-même, comme être dupé par notre prochain ; le jour vient, où nos actes seront démasqués et mis en lumière, devant le Seigneur. Ceux qui répandent véritablement la « bonne nouvelle », sous toutes ses formes, verront leur travail révélé, au grand jour du jugement, ils recevront alors leur récompense du ciel. Cela devrait les motiver, c’est très important ! D’autres, dont les opinions et leur doctrine de base sont corrompues, verront dévoilées leurs vaines pratiques, voire également, leur adoration fictive du Seigneur : ils seront rejetés par ce Dernier et leurs œuvres seront divulguées devant tous, au jour du Jugement.

Au verset quinze, il est clair qu'il s'agit d'un feu, au sens figuré : quelle fournaise pourrait en effet consumer des doctrines ou des rites religieux ? Ce « feu » doit éprouver les œuvres de chaque homme, celles de Paul et Apollos aussi bien que celles de tous les autres.

Considérons bien la qualité de notre travail pour le Seigneur : veillons à ce que nous faisons, comparons nos tâches avec ce qu’enseigne la Parole de Dieu ; jugeons-nous honnêtement nous-mêmes, afin de pas l’être défavorablement par Christ...
