Elie verse dans le sein de Dieu toute l'amertume de son cœur. Il a lutté pour l'honneur de l'Eternel, espérant ramener à lui Israël : tout a échoué ; sa vie même est menacée ; il a dû fuir pour la sauver.

Tes autels : ceux que les fidèles des dix tribus, empêchés d'aller à Jérusalem, avaient élevés.

Tué tes prophètes. Elie dans son découragement met les choses au pire. Abdias en avait sauvé un grand nombre, mais qui n'osaient plus se montrer.

Resté moi seul : seul à lutter. Il oublie ou ignore l'existence des 7000 fidèles qui forment encore la petite armée de Dieu en Israël.
