L'étang de Samarie : le bassin d'eau que l'on entretenait dans chaque ville pour les lavages publics.

Les chiens léchèrent... C'est sur ces mots que porte la remarque : Selon la parole, etc.

Les prostituées. L'auteur fait observer en passant que l'eau dont fut lavé le sang d'Achab était la même que celle où les femmes impures prenaient chaque soir leur bain. Ignoble fin d'une ignoble vie !
