World English Bible but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News.

L'apparition de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ sur la terre n'a fait que manifester ou mettre en lumière cette grâce (2Timothée 1.9) et cette vie qui étaient de toute éternité dans le dessein de miséricorde de Dieu.

La mort et la vie sont prises ici dans leur sens absolu, s'appliquant au corps et à l'âme. Pour l'âme et pour le corps, la mort a été le résultat immédiat de la séparation de l'homme d'avec Dieu, source unique de la vie ; la réconciliation avec Dieu, par la mort de Christ, la régénération par la puissance de sa résurrection, détruisent la mort, et rendent à l'homme tout entier la vie véritable.

A ce grand mot de vie, et pour l'expliquer, l'apôtre ajoute celui d'incorruptibilité (non pas immortalité qui est autre chose), par lequel il qualifie la vie véritable, la vie éternelle, comme élevée désormais au-dessus de toute atteinte de la corruption. (Comparer 1Corinthiens 15.53, note.)

- Le but immédiat de l'apôtre est ici le même qu'au verset précédent : si la grâce de Dieu pouvait délivrer Timothée de toute crainte, quel courage nouveau ne devait-il pas puiser dans la considération de cette puissance de Christ en lui, laquelle est victorieuse de la mort, et conduit ses rachetés à l'incorruptibilité des cieux !
