Grec : Ainsi donc, puisqu'il ressort de tout ce qui précède que le paganisme a été un temps d'ignorance, Dieu, dans sa miséricorde, ne veut pas punir, en considération de cette ignorance, mais il regarde par-dessus. (Actes 3.17)

Paul avait déjà exprimé dans une autre occasion ce miséricordieux dessein de Dieu. (Actes 14.16 ; comparez Romains 3.24,25)

Mais l'état d'ignorance ne doit pas se prolonger, maintenant, par la prédication de l'Evangile, Dieu ordonne aux hommes qu'ils aient à se repentir (voir, sur le sens de ce mot, Matthieu 3.2, 1re note, tous, en tous lieux).

Malgré ce qu'a de sévère cet ordre, il renferme pourtant l'offre du salut.

Les mots : tous les hommes, en tous lieux, expriment l'universelle destination de ce salut offert par la miséricorde de Dieu.
