La lutte n'est pas décrite, parce qu'il ne s'agit pas d'une bataille proprement dite, mais d'un jugement aussitôt exécuté. (Apocalypse 16.14, note.)

Avec la bête fut pris le faux prophète, qui était représenté dans 13 :11 et suivants comme une autre bête qui montait de la terre, qui avait deux cornes semblables à celles d'un agneau, et à qui ce titre de faux prophète avait été déjà donné dans Apocalypse 16.13. Ses méfaits sont caractérisés dans les mêmes termes qu'à Apocalypse 13.

Pas plus que la bête, le faux prophète n'est un individu spécial. La première représente le pouvoir politique, l'empire romain ; le second, les prêtres, les magiciens, les prétendus sages qui soutenaient le pouvoir de Rome (Actes 13.6 et suivants) et le culte rendu à l'empereur.
