La moitié de la montagne de Galaad : celle située au sud du Jabbok.

Le pays conquis est divisé en deux parts distinctes : l'une, donnée à Ruben et à Gad, est l'ancien royaume de Sihon, entre l'Amon et le Jabbok ; la seconde, l'ancien royaume de Basan avec l'Argob, au nord du Jabbok, est donnée à Manassé. Deux des descendants de Manassé sont désignés comme exerçant leur autorité chacun sur une moitié de ce dernier pays, Makir sur la partie occidentale, appelée ici Galaad. Jaïr sur la moitié orientale avec l'Argob.

Cette contrée était occupée par les Rubénites, les Gadites et la demi-tribu de Manassé : voir Nombres 32. Moïse répète les engagements que cette dernière avait pris.

      26 and from Heshbon to Ramath Mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;
      27 and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan's bank, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.
      28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and its villages.
