Segond 21 Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le roi d'Israël et celui qui le rachète, l'Eternel, le maître de l’univers : Je suis le premier et le dernier. En dehors de moi, il n'y a pas de Dieu.

World English Bible This is what Yahweh, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies, says: "I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.

6 à 23 Les dieux de néant des païens et le Dieu vivant d'Israël. Ce discours a pour but de confirmer les promesses qui précèdent, en rappelant une fois de plus à Israël que son Dieu est le seul vrai (versets 6 à 8), tandis que les idoles ne sont rien (versets 9 à 20), et en lui renouvelant l'assurance de sa grâce (versets 21 à 23).

6 à 8 L'Eternel, seul Dieu véritable.

Le Roi d'Israël : voir 41.21.

Le premier et le dernier : l'alpha et l'oméga, le commencement et la fin de tout ; comparez Apocalypse 1.8,11 ; 22.13. Ni le passé, ni l'avenir n'échappent donc à sa connaissance et à son pouvoir. Seul par conséquent il peut prédire les choses futures (versets 7 et 8).
