Chef dans la localité de Casiphéia, probablement chef des Juifs, qui vivaient en ce lieu. Casiphéia, inconnue ; ne peut être cherchée sur la mer Caspienne, beaucoup trop éloignée. Qu'était ce Iddo et en vertu de quoi Esdras lui suppose-t-il une si grande influence sur les Lévites ? Nous l'ignorons ; on a supposé que c'était le directeur d'une espèce d'école normale où se formaient les jeunes Lévites et les Néthiniens.

Je mis dans leur bouche : je leur dis exactement ce qu'ils avaient à répéter à Iddo (2Samuel 14,3,19).

A Iddo son frère [et à] les Néthuniens. Le texte : A Iddo son frère les Néthuniens, ne présente aucun sens. Nous avons ajouté et à. Plusieurs changent son frère en ses frères, dans le sens de ses compagnons, ce qui ne fait pas nécessairement d'Iddo lui-même un Néthinien.
