Le prophète n'avait pas entièrement oublié l'élément de la promesse dans les versets précédents. L'idée essentielle était celle d'une complète égalité dans le salut entre les trois sœurs, Jérusalem, Samarie et Sodome. Il revient plus explicitement à cette partie réjouissante de son message. Le verset 59 forme la transition. Ce verset signifie : Je commencerai par te faire comme tu m'as fait. C'est la menace de l'exil où l'alliance paraîtra oubliée de la part de Dieu, comme elle l'avait été, du côté du peuple.

L’Éternel, après un solennel avertissement des jugements qu’Il allait infliger au enfants d’Israël, rappelle cependant Sa Miséricorde et Sa Grâce, réservées à Son peuple.

Ces quelques versets sont en fait une précieuse promesse, partiellement accomplie par le retour de Babylone, des Juifs repentants ; ce texte verra son plein accomplissement au temps de l'évangile !

La Miséricorde divine devrait être suffisamment puissante pour faire « fondre en larmes » notre cœur, par la douleur spirituelle qu’occasionne le péché. Jamais Dieu ne laissera périr le pécheur, quand ce dernier s’humilie devant Lui, à cause de ses péchés, faisant confiance à la Miséricorde et à la Grâce offertes par Jésus-Christ ! Dieu gardera cette âme par Sa Puissance, par le biais de sa foi en Son salut !
