Ezéchiel 16.9

« J’ai pris de l’eau pour laver le sang qui était sur toi, puis je t’ai frictionnée avec de l’huile parfumée.
Je t’ai lavée dans l’eau, j’ai fait disparaître le sang qui était sur toi et je t’ai frottée avec de l’huile.

Je te baignai. C'est ici l'emblème de la purification du peuple par le moyen de la loi, par son action morale sanctifiante ainsi que par les institutions créées par elle. Ezéchiel a surtout en vue les sacrifices et les ablutions ordonnées par la loi pour la purification des Israélites pécheurs. Jusqu'alors, Israël était resté couvert de son sang (verset 6), c'est-à-dire de sa souillure originaire.

Je t'oignis d'huile : allusion au sacerdoce d'Aaron.
