World English Bible It happened in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth [month], in the fifth [day] of the month, that one who had escaped out of Jerusalem came to me, saying, The city has been struck.

21 et 22 On est étonné, d'une arrivée aussi tardive ; mais il faut se rappeler que ceux des Juifs qui avaient été emmenés captifs en Chaldée, n'étaient pas libres de voyager comme il leur plaisait ; et que, quant à ceux qui avaient échappé aux massacres dont la Judée avait été le théâtre, ils n'avaient pu arriver en Chaldée qu'à travers une multitude de difficultés et de dangers. Le fugitif était probablement du nombre de ces derniers.

Quand tout échoue de tous côtés, ceux qui sont incapables de discerner l’œuvre de la Main divine, ne veulent même pas admettre leur dépendance vis-à-vis de Dieu.

Beaucoup ont une conduite qui prouve qu’ils sont toujours ennemis de Dieu, tout en affirmant que les véritables croyants bénéficient malgré tout, de bénédictions particulières ! Ils proclament que ces derniers « ont une foi ferme, mais dénuée de réel fondement », alors que Dieu, par Sa Parole, dénonce que ces âmes médisantes ne méritent que le châtiment et rien d'autre.

      5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; and he gave judgment on him.
      6 Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah.

      14 All the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.
