18 à 27 Rituel de l'inauguration de l'autel.

La cérémonie décrite ici est analogue à celles qui furent célébrées lors de l'inauguration de l'autel des holocaustes du tabernacle (Lévitique 8.10 et suivants) et du temple de Salomon (1Rois 8.62 et suivants ; 2Chroniques 7.4 ; comparez Esdras 3.1-13) et qui durèrent aussi sept jours. Cependant, sans compter les omissions, peut-être non intentionnelles (onction d'huile par sept fois sur l'autel, libations, offrande des parties grasses consumées sur l'autel dans les sacrifices d'expiation), notre passage diffère de celui du Lévitique, qui est le plus détaillé, en deux points essentiels : Là il s'agit en première ligne de la consécration d'Aaron et des sacrificateurs, la purification de l'autel ne venant qu'en seconde ligne ; ici l'autel seul est consacré et les sacrificateurs sont représentés comme déjà investis de leurs fonctions (verset 19). C'est l'autel qui occupe toute l'attention du prophète, car il s'agit pour lui, non pas de fonder, mais de figurer un état de choses nouveau. Une autre différence à noter consiste en ce que l'importance est ici accordée essentiellement aux sacrifices d'holocaustes. Les victimes d'expiation ne sont qu'un taureau le premier jour (verset 19 et un bouc (verset 22), victime d'ordre inférieur, les six autres jours, tandis que dans le passage cité du Lévitique, elles avaient été d'un taureau et d'un bélier tous les sept jours de l'inauguration, plus un bélier spécialement pour la consécration des sacrificateurs. D'autre part, l'holocauste devra être d'un taureau et d'un bouc chaque jour (versets 23 et 24), tandis que dans le Lévitique, il avait été d'un taureau seulement. Cette différence est caractéristique pour la signification du nouveau culte, qui est surtout un culte d'holocaustes.

Le jour où il sera construit. La cérémonie est prescrite à l'avance comme Exode 29.37 et suivants.

L'aspersion du sang au pied de l'autel, accompagnait tous les holocaustes (Lévitique 1.5).
