Dans le récit de toutes circonstances, Paul n'a d'autre but que de montrer combien sa vocation à l'apostolat, et toutes les premières années de l'exercice de son ministère, restèrent indépendantes de toute influence humaine, même à l'égard des autres apôtres.

Le Seigneur seul avait tout opéré en lui et par lui. De là, l'autorité de sa mission, qu'il oppose aux prétentions des faux docteurs. La même intention se manifeste dans le récit des faits qui vont suivre. (Galates 2)
